Methodology
- Identify all relevant IP both formal or informal and organize in portfolios of related IP
- Determine the relevant contribution of each component IP to organizational value
- Determine the markets that could benefit from the IP and size those markets using several approaches
- Study existing product groups and existing and anticipated markets and determine the extent to which the relevant IP contributes to competitive position and then consider future products of the company – and other companies that may license the technology
- Consider external factors that will influence future value of the portfolio
- Consider potential revenue from out licensing elements of the portfolio outside of the contemplated products
- Apply several methodologies to determine values for the portfolio and use weighted averages to consolidate with the weighting coefficients determined with linear regressions
- Provide client with an ‘innovation database’ populated with all of their IP, licenses and NDA’s and with tools to enable and ensure ongoing IP best practices, ongoing dynamic valuations and the opportunity to confidentially market their technology
